Great 1.5 Step! Now the Solutions, Please.

Building (albeit a bit “tongue in cheek) on a prior blog post titled Great First Step! Now, Let’s Own Up to the Solution, here is a new article in the Wall Street Journal telling the story of the State of Pennsylvania and its quest to making Hospital quality data available to users. The main point of the article is the realization that higher quality of care means lower costs. This is clearly a great step in an environment still looking for solutions.

What now? Are we hoping that knowing will lead to better outcomes? As great as knowledge is, in this case we recommend action. Why do you care how you compare to other hospitals? Is a 18% re-admission rate good enough? Hey, the average is 19.1%... the answer is a resounding NO.

The answer is to aim for Process Perfection. Perfection comes from within by changing the culture to a process-minded Lean culture.
